The Worthing Championships were held at Durrington High School on the 12th April 2025. Pingsters fielded five of their league title winners in the hope of capturing a snippet of victory in what was sure to be a day to remember. At last season’s Championships, Pingsters TTC wasn’t even on the map therefore seeing those blue and pink shirts bobbing amongst the bright lights of the sports hall were a proud spectacle to behold for all of us involved in the club. The day was busy with most of our players entering four or five events each.
The Twiddler and The Terminator (Neil & Damien) finished Runners-Up in the Men’s Doubles, losing out to a strong pairing of Matt Porter and James Fryer. Neil also reached the Semi Finals of the Veterans, losing to one of the in form players of the season, Kris Pokorowski.
The Animal (Stu) lost a few kilograms throughout the course of the day, his schedule was jam packed because he just kept on winning. He claimed the Veterans Men’s Title against Kris Pokorowski in thrilling fashion. He then had a brutal five setter with Sally Hughes in the Semi Final of the Division 1 Event, just narrowly missing out. He was also one half of a partnership with The Terrifier (Rudi) in the Men’s Doubles, they were defeated by the eventual Champions; Matt Porter and James Fryer in the Semi Finals.
Rudi managed to dispose of fellow Pingster The Terminator in the Men’s Singles early on. He then went onto defeat Joe Watkins and James Fryer, the later of which was a comeback from 2-1 down and saving 2 match points. He secured the Title against Isaac Burgess, winning 3-1 to become the Men’s Singles Champion.
A Special Thanks goes to Sue West, Peter Boyd Leslie, James Pettigrew and Alan Gess for organising the day. Also big thanks to Amanda Worne for her support for Pingsters TTC. She may as well be our Chief Marketing Officer on the ground.
Ultimately it was another fruitful day for Pingsters Table Tennis Club.
