Firstly, this wasn’t a traditional ‘Closed’ tournament but rather an attempt to gather as many people who have attended the club over the last 2 years to engage in some friendly competition rooted in Pingsters philosophy. We held our inaugural event last year at our venue of inception but this year’s event featured all of our new kit and a few new faces. The day was long, really long. We want over our time allowance because some people decided to have too many fiver setters. The Open Singles Final featured the reigning and defending champion, Pedro Professor Topspin Santos and the emerging threat of Brandon Bennett. Brandon doesn’t have a nickname because he’s not officially a Pingster, but Brandon ‘Bulldozer’ Bennett sounds quite apt. The Bulldozer came out on top after a below par performance from the champion. Well done Brandon you are now officially The Pingsters Open Singles Champion. The Professor got his revenge in the Under 40’s by beating his usurper in the Final of the Under 40’s. Doubles winners were Pedro and Thomas beating Brandon and Sarah in the final. Vetts is yet to be decided as we ran out of time. It was a great day, Next up is the Pingstone Cup on the 5th September when we host Maidstone Table Tennis Club. In between now and then we’ll be scratching out heads in an effort to orchestrate our teams for the coming season.
